Week 5-- UGA

Well, time is flying by, and we have already completed week 5 out of 8! This past week was shorter due to the holiday and plane ticket mistakes. But we kept busy Monday thru Wednesday.

Monday:
We spent today working with the orientation team. The orientation team is in charge of representing Food Service and selling meal plans. UGA Freshmen are required to live on campus but they are not required to purchase a meal plan. With that being said, the orientation team has a very important job to sell the meal plans!

Our day with the orientation team started off by directing parents and incoming freshmen how to check-in, and we also answered any questions. Later we met the freshmen and parents at the different dinning commons, directed them, answered questions, and made sure everyone was enjoying their experience.

Our last task for the day was assisting with the Tailgate Dinner. The Tailgate Dinner is a fun invite during the orientation where ribs, mac and cheese, puppy chow, chocolate fondue, and many other choices are survived to set the tone for freshmen year.

Tuesday:
Today we spent our time in Tate Café, one of the eateries on campus. Tate Café offers three different stations of food, Larry’s Giant Subs, Barberito’s, and Hotei’s Asian Grill. Two of the options are chain and Hotei’s is a concept developed by UGA. I spent the day working in Larry’s Giant Subs and learning how the basic operations of the café are operated.

Wedensday:
Today was a pretty laid back day. We spent the day preparing for the Freshmen Opening Banquet. Because the banquet is not until Monday there was not much preparation we could prepare. Demi and I spent sometime discussing decorations for our event, and wrapped up our holiday weekend!

Tips for Future Interns
-DOUBLE and TRIPLE check your flights, our weekend a day short this week because I booked the wrong flight home. (Good thing we have an awesome staff who really helped me out!)
-Bring lots of decoration ideas to the table, because some things are just not do-able.

-Be proactive and always ask what you can do to help!
