University of Kansas - Final Week

I'm sad to say, but I've finished the last week of the internship at KU. I can't believe how fast the past 8 weeks have gone by, this week especially.

Monday, I shadowed Sergio Banos the Assistant Manger of Mrs. E's to gain valuable manager experience. During this time Sergio and I discussed the goals and department strategy plan. We also took a closer look at the duties and responsibilities of the dining mangers.

I spent Tuesday with Mark Maranell the general manger of Mrs. E's and the Studio learning about his personal management style. This was a great opportunity to get to know Mark better and learn about his responsibilities and duties.

Spending time with Mark and Sergio helped prepare me for the up coming special event.

Wednesday was the big day for our special event OPA! Alison and I have been work during the course of the internship to plan and prepare for this event. This event has really helped to develop a real understanding of how every in KU dining works as a team. I'm so grateful for all of the guidance and support we received. The best way to share the event is through the pictures. I hope you enjoy!!

Cheryl Wiley really seemed to be enjoying the festivities

The entire staff at Mrs E's help with smiles on their faces

They were still smiling after making hundreds of these lamb and beef meatballs.

Ok, maybe they weren't smiling the whole time :)

In addition to recreating the entire menu for each of the 10 areas, Alison and I created three activities table for the student to participate with. The first table featured nutrition information which focused on the Mediterranean lifestyle.  At this table, the student were encourage to play a game test their knowledge on the Mediterranean diet. The second table was a huge hit. The students absolutely loved to play spin the wheel. As each student entered the dining the hall they were given a ticket to redeem for a chance to win a prize. The third activity was a homemade photo booth. I'm not sure who enjoyed the photo booth more members of KU dining or the students.

I was extremely pleased with that so many student participated in the activities. We has 272 guest at dinner and 207 played our games. That a 76% participate rate!!

I feel this event was a absolute success, everyone really enjoyed themselves. I am so thankful for all of KU dining.

Now enjoy the photo booth pictures!!!

Thursday, Alison and I presented presentations for each of our project to the leadership team. During this meeting we also provide samples of recipes form each of our projects.

Well, tomorrow I have a early wrap-up meeting, a lunch date, and them I'm hitting the road.

Thank you for joining me during the NACUFS 2014 summer internship!!
