University of Georgia - Week 5

Can you believe another week in good ol' Georger has come and gone? July is finally here and we are rolling! It is project crunch time and things are going smoothly! We had a pretty short week because of the July 4th holiday.

Monday
We started the week off with a 12 hour day! After an early morning walk to Brumby Hall to meet with Austin Childers, we got to work helping with the Meal Plan Ambassador team. This team of students and Food Service employees are tasked with the job of introducing parents and UGA freshmen to the Food Service department. Day 1 of orientation is used to establish rapport with the group, while day 2 is all about selling meal plans! This week's new student orientation was a bit different because it was the beginning of Freshmen College. After opening orientation in Brumby, we smiled and chatted with the parents at lunch, and later in the evening at Tate Center while staff and different members of the community spoke.

Afterward, we assisted with the Freshman Tailgate Dinner in the Bulldog Cafe. Some of the menu items included ribs, baked beans, hamburger sliders, grilled corn on the cob, potato salad and a macaroni and cheese action station!

Tuesday
More work in the Tate Center today. Nikki and I spent the entire day between Barberitos and Larry's Giant Subs in the Tate Cafe. The Tate Cafe also hosts Hotei's, which is an Asian hibachi UGA concept. After a run down of operations and a tour of the BOH from Shannon and John, both Assistant Managers, we each got settled at our food locations. I worked at Barberitos and had fun learning as I went. I worked the front line and we were pretty busy all day!

Wednesday
We are officially underway for banquet festivities. The Freshman College Opening Banquet is right around the corner, and we are still finalizing details for the closing banquet. Today we spent time in Summit prepping things for the opening banquet Monday evening. We also finalized our dinner menu for the closing banquet with Sam, and talked decorations with Adam. I am really excited about our menu. I love brainstorming design ideas and feel great about the direction we are going in. While meeting and discussing, Nikki and I were rolling 320 silverware napkins. Oh, the fun.
