Week 7, check! Only 1.5 more weeks left!
Monday:
Today was designated for project work. We ordered the rest
of the decorations, started preparing some the decorations, and finished tying
up some loss ends.
Tuesday:
Today we worked with Tamala, manager of the campus eateries.
We started the day by learning about the processes with regards to money,
counting the safes, and dealing with expired food.
We then went to a coffee taste with some of the managers.
One of the eateries on campus is switching to box coffee, and the crew has been
responsible for tasting and decided on a brand.
Wednesday:
Today we spent the morning completing a mock health
inspection at Tate Café. These are completed approximately 2 times a year; to
ensure the facilities are meeting standards, and following state requirements.
Thursday:
Today we visited Kennesaw State University. Kennesaw is
hosting 2 interns, and spent today learning about their projects and
responsibilities for the summer. Kennesaw has an amazing sustainability program
and their summer seemed super fun! They also took us out to the campus farm
where we got to see a few of their summer projects!
Friday:
Today was designated again to mostly project work, until
lunch! We spent the morning collecting the items from other dining commons
that we will be using. We also started painting the cobble stone pathway, which
looks awesome so far!
During lunch, we spent time with Chef Sam. He prepared a three-course
meal for us to test some French Dishes! Let me tell you, I spent the entire day
full from his amazing cooking!
This weekend we spent Friday night and Saturday in Atlanta!
Friday night we went to a Braves game with Marcus. The night was a little
rainy, but we still managed to have a great time! I also learned about the
Marta, and that taxi’s are crazy expensive when you aren’t in a college town!
Saturday we walked around a couple different areas, grabbed
lunch at the Cheese Cake Factory, and headed back to Athens after we had some
Chick-fil-a!
Tips for Future Interns
-Definitely spend sometime in Atlanta!
-Make sure you check out the different university’s programs
while you are applying
-If you are at UGA and you are planning the event, stay on
top of your project work so that it doesn’t come crashing down all at the end.
-Split up tasks between the two of you, based on your strengths!
